Jury Selected in Northern New Jersey Police Chief’s Trial

Jury selection has concluded in the trial of Hackensack, N.J., police chief Ken Zisa.

The panel was seated late Tuesday morning. But it wasn’t immediately clear if opening arguments would start later in the day.

Zisa was suspended without pay in 2010 after being charged with official misconduct and insurance fraud. Prosecutors say he removed his girlfriend from the scene of a 2008 accident in which she was suspected of being intoxicated.

Authorities allege Zisa then filed false information in an insurance claim.

The chief’s also accused of covering up an investigation stemming from a 2004 assault and robbery in which his girlfriend’s sons were suspects. The chief’s attorney has said the case is based on testimony from police officers who stand to gain financially from his conviction.
