Delaware Holding Workshop on Storm of 1962

Officials in Delaware are holding a workshop to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the “Ash Wednesday Storm,” one of the most destructive storms in the state’s history.

The meeting will take place Wednesday at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Officials will give presentations about the storm and its aftermath, and a 55-fminute film produced by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources will also be screened.

The 1962 storm hit the northeast on March 5 through 9. It caused over $200 million in property damage and killed 40 people. Major coastal erosion from the storm stretched from North Carolina to Long Island, N.Y.
