At what point are we going to realize that federal monies are neither free, nor intended to supplant the responsibilities of local governments. I find it ridiculous that the feds are paying 80% for a fire engine used locally. If the community needed a new fire truck to replace a 23 year old one it should have made plans to buy it and pay for it without looking to Uncle Sam. As long as Uncle Sam keeps on reaching into his pocket the line will remain long and the list of needs endless. Since we borrow 40 cents of every dollar the least the beneficiary of the taxpayers’ largess could do is send a thank you to me, my children & my grandchildren. After all, at least 3 generations will be paying for this boondoggle.
