The New Hampshire Supreme Court will decide whether a law that allows suspension of boating privileges for life is constitutional.
The justices on Wednesday will hear the appeal of 38-year-old Erica Blizzard of Laconia – the pilot in a fatal boat crash on Lake Winnipesaukee in 2008.
A jury convicted her of negligent homicide. The Department of Public Safety suspended her boating privileges for three years.
Blizzard claims the law is vague because it fails to set suspension lengths for specific offenses. State officials maintain they can suspend boating privileges for life if circumstances warrant.
Blizzard drove her 37-foot speedboat into the ledges of Diamond Island on Father’s Day 2008, killing one friend and seriously injuring herself and another friend.
Her suspension runs until June 2013.
