Conn. Hearing to Look at Insurers’ Storm Response

November 14, 2011

State lawmakers want to learn more about how the insurance industry responded to the two recent storms to hit Connecticut – the remnants of Hurricane Irene and the October nor’easter.

The legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee has scheduled an informational meeting and a public hearing on Tuesday. Speakers have been invited to attend. Also, members of the public will be able to testify about their personal experiences.

Rep. Robert Megna of New Haven, the committee’s co-chairman, said legislators plan to examine how the insurers responded to property claims on homes, businesses and vehicles in the wake of both storms.

Also, the committee is expected to review complaints received by the state’s Department of Insurance. They want to determine whether the industry was fair and timely in responding to claims.
