Fire Continues to Smolder at Old Albany Warehouse

Fire officials in Albany, New York say they’ll re-evaluate efforts to extinguish a blaze at an 11-story warehouse that continues to smolder more than three days after a fire broke outside the 83-year-old structure.

Firefighters remained at the scene Monday morning after spending all weekend pumping water onto the Central Warehouse, located along Interstate 787 near downtown Albany.

After the fire broke out Friday, fire officials deemed the concrete and steel building too dangerous for firefighters to enter. Instead, officials decided to allow the fire to burn itself out over several days.

Fire department officials told the Times Union of Albany that they would re-evaluate the situation Monday morning.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The former refrigeration facility has been vacant for about 20 years.
