October 25, 2010

A New York woman has been charged with insurance fraud after authorities said she wrongly collected nearly $47,000 in disability payments while working as an as a self-employed family care provider.

Karen L. Davis, of Ogdensburg, began collecting payments five years ago after complaining that an on-the-job injury left her with chronic neck pain and unable to work.

She was charged with insurance fraud when investigators discovered she was working, even though she had submitted documents to disability insurer, Unum Group, claiming she was unable to work.

She faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
