The settlement calls for $175,000 to be placed in a trust for Robbins and $10,000 for a second student who filed suit, Jalil Hassan. Their lawyer, Mark Haltzman, will get $425,000 for his work on the case.

    Speechless.

…who is “earning” $475,000 while the student who was spied upon receives $175,000 in Trust?

This simple sentence in the story underscores the real crime.

The attorney’s fees are more than the settlement. I am certainly in the wrong line of work!

Can you imagine what the average insurance commissioner would say to fees or commissions far greater than the cost of insurance products??? We could NEVER get away with it!!!

I guess it is because lawyers write the laws…

More to the point, the story says the reason they had the web cam on at all was he had ‘broken two other computers and had refused to pay the 55 dollar ‘insurance fee’ for this one (the third furnished by the school district)’
So he gets a small trust fund for invasion of privacy – worth no more than 10-20 thou in my book – mostly pictures of him sleeping – ye Gods !

Unbelievable. The attorney fees, the school contiuing to give this kid a computer when he is obviously not responsible to have one, the adverse selection of having a $55 insurance policy be the solution, a school that beleives they can do what ever to watch kids and the taxpayer flipping the bill for most of it or eventually in h igher premiums.

How does a sleaze bag attorney manage to get 70% of the award? There is no “justice” in our legal system; just greed and abuse.
