A pilot has died after walking into the propellor of another small plane at Beverly Airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters says the accident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday as two single-engine planes were awaiting clearance to take off from the general aviation airport about 25 miles northeast of Boston.
Peters says one of the pilots noticed a problem with the canopy that covers the cockpit area of his Piper Sport aircraft.
He says a flight instructor who was with a student pilot in the second plane, a Piper Arrow, got out to help the other pilot. He was killed when he walked into the Piper Sport’s propellor.
The victim’s name was not released. State police said he was a 30-year-old man.
State and federal officials are investigating.
