This report issue is irrelevant to this accident. The duck boat’s engine stalled and it was struck by a barge. It wasn’t defective and nobody appears to be negligent. Accidents happen. The city of Philadelphia’s negligence occured when it made the decision to allow it’s operation on the busy Delaware river, and gladly took it’s fee for an operating license.

Those “ducks” were used by the military as an amphibious landing vehicle to dump troops onto a beach. They weren’t built for safety or as a public conveyance. Some jackass decided it would be a way to make money so they introduced the old “duck” as urban recreation vehicles. BAD IDEA.

As you say, accidents happen. The Ducks are a great ride & lots of fun. How many other things out there weren’t built for safety but so far nothing has happend to bring any attention to it?

Lots of things are fun….but I agree with Sanchez. Somebody out there has to exercise some common sense. The Duck was never designed to be maneuverable. It traveled in a straight line from the ship to the beach. If it stalled out on a beach landing there was no fatal consequence. To take one and decide it’s fun to put in a busy, commercially traveled river in a major city is plain stupid. Fun, but stupid nonetheless. I’m sure the families of the two dead Hungarian tourists would agree.
