Collision Collapses Virginia Building

The side of a building in downtown Richmond, Virginia collapsed after it was struck by a sport utility vehicle involved in a collision.

Authorities say the SUV hit the building at Adams and Marshall streets after striking a Virginia Commonwealth University police car Saturday afternoon.

State police Sgt. Thomas Molnar says two VCU police officers and two adults and two children in the SUV were injured. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

The SUV hit a cafe on the first floor of the building, which owner Kelvin Hanson says will be rebuilt. Besides the cafe, Hanson says the building has three occupied apartments.

State police are investigating the crash.
