Staten Island Ferry Crash Injures Dozens

New York authorities say at least one person was seriously hurt and as many as 35 suffered minor injuries when a Staten Island ferry boat struck a pier at a terminal in New York.

Fire Department officials say the vessel hit the pier as it was preparing to dock at about 9:25 a.m. Saturday on Staten Island. They were unsure how much damage was done to the ferry, which was still afloat.

Authorities say the vessel is the Andrew J. Barberi, the same one involved in a 2003 crash that killed 11 at the same terminal.

Some passengers were being taken by ambulance to hospitals. Others were being bandaged and comforted by firefighters at the scene.

The ferry runs across New York harbor between Manhattan and Staten Island.
