Connecticut Lawmakers Fail to Take Up Power Plant Bill

May 7, 2010

Connecticut lawmakers ran out of time to pass legislation that addresses power plant safety in the wake of the deadly Feb. 7 Kleen Energy plant explosion in Middletown.

Some legislators were still attempting to pass a bill Wednesday, the final day of the session. The bill would have required state agencies to work together to develop standards for power plant safety.

Rep. Linda Orange, a Democrat from Colchester, had also tried to create a new task force that would review all the investigations of the blast, which left six men dead. That group would then come up with recommendations to the General Assembly for law changes by 2011.

A task force created by Gov. M. Jodi Rell is currently reviewing what laws and regulations, if any, should be changed.
