I live in Middletown about 4 miles away on a hillside facing the blast site hilltop. The plant was just below the ridgeline on the opposite side of the hill along the CT river. My husband described it as the biggest blast and concussive sound he’s heard since he was in the army in Germany training with the big guns. It was felt for 20 miles around all the way to the coastline in Madison, Old Saybrook and Mystic and as far west to Wallingford. Houses in the area have suffered earthquake-like damage (cracks in walls and foundations, contents falling off walls). Houses directly across the river from the site (on a sight line) also have concussive damage.

Emergency response was phenomenal. Mutual aid was in full swing from surrounding communities.

The owner of the plant is already providing insurance contact information for the surrounding homes.

Prior to this event the 2 year construction project had been reportedly loss free.
