Can you believe this nonsense!!!…The ambulance service costs are already for thru tax revenue…
These local gov’ts act like people (including health insurers) are getting away with something wrong but, in fact, it is they who are now trying to get over/steal.

That’s because no one there has insurance to recover from. Seriously, most jurisdictions are ‘forgiving’ the fee if no insurance to respond — which is therefor a tax and will go into premiums. Like Ragu — it’s in there. That is, until challenged by the folks who DO have insurance versus the freeloaders.
EMS a profit center for the County. Now ain’t that a great idea?
Cheaper if a non-professional Ambulance Service?

Prince William County Chairman Corey Stewart said insurance companies are “getting away with not having to pay” in his county while nearby Fairfax County, Prince George’s County and D.C. already charge the fees.

On what legal basis? Seems the injured parties responsibility. Which is usually settled with the injury claim. And which carrier would pay this, the invloved or the at fault carrier?

Sounds like a good reason to raise premiums, just what every consumer wants

This is done throughout the midwest and generally through Medicare or other health care coverage. In over 5 years in Ohio there has yet to be a premium increase.
Also, auto accidents / liability issues are a minute % of squad runs in total. Suggest those questioning get ALL of the facts before criticizing. Also, the statement from County Supervisors about “insurers getting away” with something is dead wrong. They aren’t getting away with something if the “supers” aren’t smart enough to ask for it in the first place.

ok, first of all is the ambulance run by a private company or the county own these ambulances? this is what is confusing… many counties have volunteer fire/emt depts. problem i have they are looking to make a profit on a needed service. what would be interesting is are you planning to raise premium because the fire truck is rolling w/the ambulance? in most states, they have a regulation, if it is an auto accident, they roll both the fire and ambulance vehicles. i think property taxes already pay this, so why are you trying to go after more revenue? are you asking for any money for when you have to roll the police department? it just sounds to fishy for me to see that the county is struggling for income… there must be better ways and easier for the taxpayer…
