Two Proposals to Amend New New Hampshire Sprinkler Regulations

The New Hampshire Legislature is expected to consider two bills that would prevent the state from enforcing amendments to building codes that expand requirements for sprinkler systems.

Last month the Building Code Review Board voted to require sprinklers in every newly constructed single- and two-family home and town house starting in 2012.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says the requirement would add about $3,200 to the cost of a 2,000-square foot home.

Democratic State Rep. Susi Nord of Candia is sponsoring a bill to prevent the state from requiring sprinklers in single and multi-family homes.

She says her intent is not to have the state tell local people what to do and she she’s concerned about the cost of housing.
