Wonder if any of the EQ’s reported in this article are also a result of the huge increase in natural gas well drilling and the techniques used to recover the gas…?
I’m sure there must be some sort of connection… but whoes going to be the ones to tell ’em?! Besides – by the time it causes any real problems – those officials will be long gone!
Although the article doesn’t mention where in Central PA, the quakes are centered in and around Dillsburg, PA. To my knowledge, there is no gas drilling going on in that region.
Holy mining engineer, Robin! Great question. However, there is no marcellus shale formation in Dillsburg, PA, the locus for these earthquakes; there is no drilling in northern York county. The consensus is that there may be some old mining tunnels in the area which make these small tremors more apparent but the quakes have not caused any damage yet and should probably dissipate in the coming year.
Batman, my Aunt has lived in Dillsburg for over 60 years. I talked to her and visited numerous times and I know for a fact that there are no old mining tunnels. Do you work for the Kirby Gas extraction company that took on the recent land lease contracts and trying to divert the public’s attention away from the Marcellous Shale drilling? I really question your motives here!!!!

No faults in PA, just different kinds of rock intersect one another?? Hmmmm….
