A Connecticut hotel is being sued over the stabbing death of a 21-year-old woman, whose mother claims hotel managers could have prevented the death if they had banned underage parties.
Layla Banks was stabbed more than two dozen times by her ex-boyfriend at the Stamford Plaza Hotel and Conference Center on Oct. 13, 2007. Police say she was among 60 to 100 young people who went to the hotel that night for a party that included large amounts of alcohol and possibly drugs.
Banks’ mother, Florence Banks, filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. She’s seeking unspecified damages.
The hotel’s general manager did not immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday.
The ex-boyfriend, Juan Botello, is serving a 40-year prison sentence.
