Yes, the Catholic church had a problem. Yes, it was unfortunate. Yes, it probably should have been identified and addressed sooner. Yes, it is painfully aware of the situation and is taking steps to prevent a recurrence. Having said that, it’s time to move on.

Allowing these suits to continue ad nauseum without any statute of limitations is absurd. Most of these “alleged” victims only came forward after it became vogue and people started making money. Funny how after 30-40 years these stand-up believers suddenly have the courage to come forward. The Church didn’t do itself any favors by trying to buy these people off with settlements. It merely opened the floodgates for further exploitation by people. How is awarding them money going to make things right? Gutting a religion of its assets to pay them is an antiquated reaction, symptomatic of a legal system that is out of touch.

These alleged victims should bear some burden of proof that having their a sses grabbed 40 years ago caused them permanent damage. If they were that severely affected, why didn’t they seek professional help? I doubt any of them have sought help even after they got their checks. This entire thing it outrageous. I have no respect for these alleged Christians who demonstrate no capacity for forgiveness to the point of bankrupting the church. I’m sure someday they’ll have some explaining to do. You can bet the same bunch of “victims” will be the first to call a priest when they’re on their death bed. How ironic.
