A Maryland family plans to appear in Annapolis to ask state lawmakers to approve a ban on handheld cell phone use and text messaging while driving.
Russell Hurd says his 26-year-old daughter Heather was killed last year in Florida when a her car was one of eight vehicles struck at an intersection by a truck driver who was sending a text message while driving. Hurd says his family wants to spare another family from the pain his family endures every day.
The Hurd family will testify at a legislative hearing Tuesday and plans to travel to Florida this spring to testify on a similar measure in that state.
