Connecticut Teacher Awarded $26K in Depression Claim

November 6, 2008

A former adult education teacher in New Haven, Connecticut has been awarded nearly $26,000 on his complaint that he was discriminated against because of his depression.

The settlement is for a complaint filed with the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities in 2005.

Robert Lucibello of East Haven was a full-time adult education teacher in 1999 when he claims his parents became severely ill and he was diagnosed with depression.

Lucibello claimed he was medically incapable of completing his recertification courses and found it difficult to continue working full time.

He claims he was advised by school officials to resign his full-time job, and that he would be placed in a part-time post, but he was ultimately not rehired.
