No one here is identifying the junior license as the cause of the accident. I, among the others, hope this kid (and his parents) remember the accident and results every day of their lives. Put up all the lights you want, but you can’t fix stupid.

His failure to abide by the license restriction should void liability coverage. Let the parents take the hit.

An appropriate penalty would be a full license revocation until this little punk turns 21. Maybe then the message will sink into his thick skull that there’s a reason why 17 year olds have restricted priviledges. It’s because they have no driving skills.

This tragedy should not have occured. The parents of the driver are primarily to blame by allowing their kid to drive a car in blatant violation of state law/restrictions. “Excessive speed on wet roads, and the driver had his license for a short time, police said.” To make matters worse, it happened at 3:15AM. What parent would allow a kid to be out at that hour? I’m talking about both the driver and the passengers.

The driver walked away with no injuries. There’s poetic injustice for you. I agree w/Dread that both the kid and his parents need to be punished severely.

I personally live in the area where this accident occurred & have driven this road on several occassions. This road is dangerous for anyone to drive at this time of night. It’s a very windy road without street lights. I do not think that the junior license in the issue here. I feel the driver is to blame due to the excessive speed in wet conditions. As for punishment I think loosing a friend at such a young age is punishment enough. The guilt this kid will carry on with his surpasses any punishment he will be given. Maybe everyone should also look towards the towns-In our area street lights only exist in the innercities & main streets in the villages. Maybe they should consider installing some lights around the more rural areas where the roads are dark and hard for any driver of any age to see where they are going.

What are you… a bleeding heart? Losing a friend is punishment enough???

I’m sure you’d pitch a fit if you had to pay taxes to put in all of those expensive lights and warnings – Regardless of how “dangerous” the road is – it is obviously known to all who live in the area or you wouldn’t have mentioned it, nor would you be here if it weren’t negotiable in any weather condition.

The parents (all of them) need to be ripped for allowing the kids to be out at 3:15 am – Someone had to know he had the car – and You bet your sweet potatos that they knew he had a restricted license.

Yes..a parent myself, I know peer pressure wins out – thats whats wrong with this country – everyone is afraid to say “no” or discipline their kids – He was 17 – still a minor – and the parents are still legally and financially responsible for whatever he did.

I agree with Dread – pin them to the wall – maybe they’ll get the picture – or not – but at least they might think twice about their gross negligence
