in spite of all the fundraisers and research, our medical geniuses haven’t found a cure or prevention for anything since polio some 50 years ago. Why? there is not profit in prevention/cure. Medical research, diagnosis, and treatment are the cash cows of the medical profession folks. Fundraisers make people feel good, but in the end, it’s all smoke and mirrors.
They were raising money for CHOP, not necessarily trying to raise the money develop a cure for anything. If that $65k helps some family pay their medical bills or even only goes to buy teddy bears for some poor little sick kids, then the fundraiser was worth it.
Ralph. I don’t disagree, but you’re missing Dread’s point. We keep doing “feel good” things that do nothing about the underlying problem. What’s more important: helping a family pay a few bills or saving lives? I too am disgusted with the medical community. While I’d hate to admit it and hope it isn’t true, I don’t think too many people are interested in preventing or curing anything. The profit motive is the driving force of America and it will do anything for it. There’s too much money and too many jobs in research, diagnostics, and treatment to make prevention and cures tops on anybody’s list. I agree with Dread……..follow the money.
