Ex-Pennsylvania Police Chief Charged with Forgery, Fraud

September 24, 2008

A former western Pennsylvania police chief was apparently charged with forging doctor’s notes so he could collect sick pay while on suspension.

Northern Cambria Borough suspended 49-year-old Kevin Stanek in May after he was arrested for assault and driving under the influence. He retired Thursday.

Police say while on suspension, Stanek used the forged slips to collect $8,423.

Stanek and his wife, Debra Stanek, 50, were also charged Monday with insurance fraud after state police say they lied about how their SUV was damaged two years ago. Police say they claimed it was damaged in a hit-and-run when another family member backed into it.

Stanek’s attorney says he pleaded not guilty. He’s awaiting trial in Cambria County Court for his May arrest.
