“Arroyo said he only lifts weights no more than 30 pounds at a time, and feels “betrayed” by other firefighters who have not come to his defense.”

Ya ain’t never gonna win a body-building contest,girly-man, only lifting 30 pounds, ya little cry-baby weakling. Ya need to come see us, Hans & Franz and we will Pump You Up!

Mr Oblivious (oh… I’m sorry… Mr Obvious) Dohhh!!

“Body Building” is not the same as “Power Lifting” – You can “pump-up” your muscles over a period of time doing repeated lifts of 20-30 lbs – They’re not trying to turn over a VW – they’re trying to increase muscle mass for confirmation – which is entirely different – The focus is on the size and shape of the muscle – not so much the strength – While they “look pretty” their cardio and ability to exert themselves is way less than say… Mark Pfister (Who may be Worlds Strongest Man – but totally nothing to look at!) Now… Mario Pudzianowski is a different story!

BTW – A fireman has to carry at least 50-75 lbs of gear and another 50lbs of hose and equipment – just because the guy can lift 30 lbs doesn’t mean he can continue as a firefighter. Those in the profession can attest to the fact that not only does it require the ability to “carry your own weight” but balance, strength, stamina, flexibility and endurance all come into play.

Having personally suffered a serious back injury I can still manage to lift a fair amount of “weight” without problems – but not for long – and not if my life or certainly, if someone elses life depended on it.

    AZAZ,

Get your head out of your AZAZ. I don’t care what kind of contest it is, 30lbs aint cutting it, unless it’s contestants are in kindergarten. And, even if it would, be a little smarter and wait until, oh, let’s say later than the same MONTH that you filed for disability!

If the guy can only carry 30 lbs, then obviously he is unfit to be a fire fighter on the front lines. Is he qualified to do a desk job? Perhaps give presentations to school children and the like?

If he’s not doing his job (or any job for that matter), why should he complain about not receiving an income? Further, how can be fired if he’s already retired?

This guy wasn’t a front-lines kind of fireman anyway. He was a fire extinguisher inspector. The heaviest thing he had to lift to do his job was a clipboard.

There was an article about it previously in the IJ.

Anyway, that’s why so many people are crying foul on his “disability”. He can lift weights but he can’t read an expiration tag on an fire extinguisher? Sorry, but I sense something bogus in the air.

This clown had an “un-witnessed” fall down a flight of stairs in a fire house he wasn’t assigned to be in, and exaggerated a pre-existing back injury. How convenient. What was the “pre-existing” injury caused by you ask? LIFtING FREAKING WEIGHTS so he could enter bodybuilding competitions. This guy was making $67,000 a year to inspect fire extinguishers. That entails looking at the little gauge and seeing if the needle is in the “green”. Then he puts his initials on the tag. With a disability, he gets his salary TAX FREE. What’s that all about? He’s still earning money by virtue of being on a payroll, so what exempts him from paying taxes? Great legal system we have in this country.

Obviously you guys don’t understand bodybuilding. He just needs to take 7 shots in his AZAZ each day and do curls with a 5 LB bar.

My name is Sven and I’m from Cal-i-for-nia. I’ve trained may body builders and not being able to lift 50LBs is very common.

He’s just trying to earn a living while doing what he loves. Don’t get upset.
