While my heart goes out to the hundred people and their loved ones that lost their lives in this horrible tragedy, I’m still utterly amazed that so many people paid to see Great White.

Compensating victims is one thing, but why are non-dependent relatives allowed to belly up to the trough and grab some cash?

They probably are suing from the estate of victim. That is one way for non-dependents to get $.

There was a special on MTV/VH1 hosted by Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) that took in an incredible amount of $ for the victims and their families.

By simple calculation, a cadre of ghoulish personal injury attorneys raked in between $52,500,000 and $87,500,000 for doing essentially nothing except stir the emotional pot and threatening everyone they could with the prospect of spending millions in legal defense if they didn’t kick in towards a settlement. Ain’t Amercia great.

Why does someone have legal standing to sue on behalf of the loss of another? Same standing that your spouse has to sue for loss of consortium in the event of your injury – – Its the food chain of insurance –

You truly cannot grasp the magnitude of this case unless you read the website that has been set up to follow the proceedings.

There is also an entire Wikipedia section that follows:

If you think about it – a total of $175 million is peanuts compared to the loss of life and those who remain. My question is why is Home Depot, Clear Channel, and even the bus company that drove the band to the club legally liable to pay anything? They promoted the band…they didn’t set off the “gerb” – They sold the insulating material – They had no idea how the dingbats who owned the club were going to use it – They drove a bunch of middle aged rockers to a gig – They didn’t fan the fire – Sad as it may be – There are a lot of players here that are settling because of the sympathy factor – the shere magnitude of the loss of life – that really in my mind have no direct liability to the cause of this tragedy… But heck – America… What a Country!

AZAZ: “….a total of $175 million is peanuts compared to the loss of life and those who remain.” Somebody else raised the question about why a non-dependant relative should make money off the death of someone? Well, why should they? Nearly everybody agrees you can’t put a dollar value on a life……but you can be damn sure everyone will get a lawyer and want to make some money from it. Something’s wrong with that picture. “someone died do give me money”.

Many of the co-defendants should have filed for summary judgement before caving in and throwing money at these people. The fact that there wasn’t enough insurance on those responsible should require those without liability to pay. I realize it’s the legal system but then look who built it…..lawyers. It’s money, not justice, that drives our legal system.

Where’s my money? I’m emotionally traumatized by this whole thing. The stories about the fire give me nightmares; I’m sick from all the settlements I hear about and; worst of all I’m too stunned to work properly over the fact that at least 100 people paid to see Great White.

I want my money so I can retire. Give me millions please.

I can see the IJ headline now for August 21, 2015. Final defendants (Ice Making and Toilet Paper Dispenser Manufactrurers) have settled with the (greedy) plaintiffs for $20M. I wonder if the swizzle stick manufacturers were also sued…

Did anybody sue Fender? If guitars weren’t so loud sound-proofing foam would never have been needed.

Don’t forget the manufacturer of the guitar pic, guitar strings and the drums. Oh those pesky flammable drums.
