The law is constipated and lacks the willingness to get tough on the FIRST offense, not wait until the second offense. How many times do we see people with multipe DUI convictions still on the road. That’s because the courts let them. If society thinks this is a serious problem, the courts need to treat it as such. A 6 month suspension, 5 days jail time, and a $1,000 fine for the first offense is not onerous. It sends a clear message that there is a serious consequence.
The first offense is bad enough considering that’s only the first time they’ve been *CAUGHT*.
There’s no telling how many times they’ve driven under the influence prior to getting busted… I would be some number in the dozens, especially if they live close to wherever they like to drink. Can’t they just drink at home and stay there? WTF???
While my Dad was working for an oil company in a well known Islamic country, he was not allowed to drive himself arround-all consulants were given a company car and native driver. One morning when the car came to pick Dad up for work, there was a new driver. The old driver was caught driving drunk the previous night and was beheaded by the authorities forthwith. Can we do that here??
