Eight families have been displaced from their homes in suburban New York after lightning struck and set ablaze their condominium in Pleasantville, New York.
The building was hit by lightning during a Sunday afternoon thunderstorm. No one has reported any injuries. Most of the tenants were not home at the time.
Residents who live in nearby condos say they first heard a “loud pop” and a “crashing boom” from the lightning.
Fire Chief John Cullen says firefighters were able to block the flames from contaminating adjacent condos. He says the building that was struck has been destroyed.
Pleasantville is in Westchester County, about 36 miles north of Manhattan.
