Glad to see your comment EX DCer. Figured that was the case considering the place is infested/infected with politicians.

What a ridiculous action to take; rescinding an engineering map just because the politicos were bombarded by corporate interests who had NO desire to pay the additional cost of building properly.

It seems to me that when someone says that a new levee system will be in place by November 2009, they really mean a bunch of years AFTER the target date. Nothing ever happens in Real Time; it’s Planners Time which isn’t grounded in fact but instead fiction of approved plans (heck, even WRITTEN plans).

Until the replacement levees are in, DC would be subject to flood damage and NOT have the cushion provided by the NFIP. I can imagine quite a few carriers will elect to withhold Flood coverage, or even Sewers and Drains. Why should private industry subsidize a political move to de-assume an exposure?

Let’s hope DC doesn’t get clobbered with a flooded Potomac. Imagine all the yelling and screaming they will do, looking for FEMA to come in and give them the “Brownie” treatment.

What kind of idiotic semantic games are they playing? You can’t “rescind” a flood zone – all you can do is reclassify it to show that you’re TRYING to protect it from flooding. No wonder everything’s a mess when these cavalier games are played with the meaning of words…methinks Ma Nature will weigh in to show them that Once a Flood Zone, Always a Flood Zone – it’s just dry for the moment. Besides, are we surpised? Isn’t DC a stinking malarial swamp, anyway?

I used to live just outside of DC and I can promise you that there is little to no chance that they meet the deadline. It is the most corrupt ineffcient messed up city in the US.
