Governments should not perform certain types of inspections. Crane inspection is one type inspection that should not be performed by the government, especially New York City.

New York City is known for dishonest inspectors. Making laws that require New York City government inspections of cranes just perpetrates more kick backs, corruption, and graft.

Three people are responsible for all construction project accidents – the job superintendent, project manager, and construction company president. When laws are passed making the job superintendent, project manger, and construction company president responsible and accountable then construction project accidents will begin to drop.

THE SITUATION IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THAT THE CITY WOULD REMOVE A REQUIREMENT THAT A CITY INSPECTOR BE IN ATTENDANCE WHEN CRANES ARE RAISED OR LOWERED ! MORESO, A QUALIFIED ENGINEER; EXPERIENCED IN THIS PRACTICE SHOULD BE ON HAND. AND YES: WHO;S GONNA PAY FOR THIS JOE, YOU ASK? THE CONTRACTOR! HE’S THE BIRD MAKING THE PROFIT.

JOE; my point is New York City had inspectors the cranes still fell down. New York City is too dishonest to have effective inspectors.

WHY DONT WE WAIT FOR THE OUTCOME OF THE INVESTIGATION BEFORE WE START POINTING FINGERS AND SCREAMING CORRUPTION. I WILL AGREE, IF THIS CRANE WAS MADE IN CHINA IT SHOULD NOT BE WORKING IN NYC. WE HAVE AN AMPLE AMOUNT OF AMERICAN CRANES OF GOOD QUALITY THAT CAN DO THE SAME JOB MUCH BETTER AND SAFER. WOULD YOU BUY A CHINESE CAR? I REST MY CASE.

WE ARE HEAVY EQUIPMENT APPRAISERS AND ADJUSTERS AND WE HANDLE THE CLAIMS ON THESE CRANES. IT IS FAIRLY UNCOMMON TO SEE A LATTICE TYPE CRANE GO DOWN. I DONT KNOW WHO MADE THIS PARTICULAR CRANE, BUT IF THE OPERATOR WAS EXPERIENCED AND HE SEEMED TO BE, THE PROBLEM IS PROBABLY WITH THE EQUIPMENT.
LET’S HAVE OUR CRANE CERTIFIERS LIKE MANITOWOC HAVE A MAN PRESENT WHEN THE BIG CRANES ARE JUMPED. IT’S ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE AN IMPARTIAL ENGINEER PRESENT. THERE ARE STILL ENGINEERS OUT OF WORK WHO WOULD JUMP AT THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DAYS PAY TRAVELLING AROUND WITH A PRIVATE INSPECTOR OKAYING THE JUMPS BEING MADE. THIS WAY YOU KNOW THE EQUIPMENT IS BEING HANDLED THE RIGHT WAY BY THE RIGHT ENGINEER. I SAY KEEP IT PRIVATE. YOU WILL HAVE LESS CORRUPTION. YOU CANT PAY MANITOWOC TO CERITIFY A REPAIRED CRANE IF IT IS NOT PROPERLY REPAIRED CAN YOU?
