Connecticut Reaches $750K Settlement in Montville Mudslide

May 20, 2008

Connecticut officials say they’ve reached a $750,000 settlement for a mudslide in Montville at a construction site in October 2005.

The attorney general and the Department of Environmental Protection have reached the settlement with the developer and builders of the Montville Commons Shopping Center.

Under the agreement, the DEP will use $200,000 of the money to fund a study on the use of artificial turf.

The settlement resolves violations of state environmental laws in 2005 during construction of the shopping center.

State officials say those involved in the project didn’t secure a permit for a dam that failed to contain water from heavy rains, forced the evacuation of homes and temporarily closed Route 32.
