awarded Pelletier $5.6 million in economic damages, $22.7 million in non-economic damages and awarded his wife $3.8 million for loss of consortium, for a total damages award of $32.2 million.

5.6 mil in economic loss? was a high paid steel worker? i am lucky to even have made 1 mil in my lifetime.
22.7 non-economic loss? what is this punitive damage?
3.8 mil to the spouse for consortium? what? did we not consider this for the economic loss? this is truly an amazing way to look at damages and how they are awarded. i think that this was an overkill by not the victim but the lawyer — and he/she will probably collect a good portion of the money. this is why we need to relook at damages to victims.
