I like that they are holding adult passengers responsible for their own behavior. My state still tickets the driver if an adult passenger is not belted in. This gives the passenger more incentive to comply.

And yes, I do know that the driver should be able to control everyone in their vehicle, but how many of us had our parents tell us to “knock it off” and we didn’t – or have told our children to “knock it off” and they didn’t? How much harder do we find it to control our adult friends’ actions? You can only do so much to influence the actions of others, and after that they need to be responsible and accountable for their own actions.

I’d like to see medical providers put an exclusion in their policies for any medical expenses incurred as a result of injuries sustained because of the failure to utilize a seat belt. Why should 99% of the population pay for the deviant behavior of 1%?

    Amen to that!

I am surprised we haven’t seen auto manufacturers being forced to put seatbelt-ignition interlocks on cars yet. It’s a simple electrical device that’s been on forklifts for a couple of decades now. Granted it doesn’t ensure the belt is being worn properly, but it does ensure the belt is buckled prior to being able to start the car. I’m not for it (other than on forklifts) just surprised it hasn’t been legislated.

I apologize if any law-makers are reading this and get bad ideas from this posting. I take no responsibility for the idiocy of any legislator who decides to take action based on this posting.

    How’s that for a disclaimer?

Great suggestion. Maybe some insurance industry folks should run for office and bring some modicum of common sense to the process. If any lawmakers or politicians take offense to that suggestion……..good.
