Sounds like some people are placing a higher value on convenience than the antiquated argument that they should have the right to choose their own shop. (as if the consumer really knows anything about the shop and repair techniques)

I’m sure they’re limited to “approved shops” on Progressive’s list. This makes good sense since insurers know full well the danger of endorsing an inferior facility and/or repair. The cost of the repair shouldn’t matter to the vehicle owner so long as the repair is appropriate and professionally done. This gets the consumer out of the “middle” with the insurance company and the shop. Insurers can ill-afford any negative publicity about this concept so they’re inclined to police it strictly.

Also, modern auto manufacturing techniques and design make the bulk of repairs “parts replacement” vs. old time bodywork by a skilled body repairman.

Awesome! Yes, I concur, I personally would rather have the insurance company handle the auto repair than fretting over it. I wonder if in years past, the insurance companies were more mischevious when it came to paying for quality auto parts and repair. I think these days, there is so much competition that it would not pay off for the insurer to play fast and loose on the quality of repairs. They can probably even lower the cost of repairs with this system, not by sacrificing quality, but by getting reduced labor rates from professional repair shops in exchange for volume. Too bad I live in a small town where there will never be one of these centers.

If your insurance company was buying all your groceries, what do you think you’d be eating? Don,t worry about it, you will not be “in the middle”. Your insurance company will see that you get some nourishment. What a wonderful arrangement!

It all looks good on paper. I f I were not involved in the industry and and had no access to the real world. I would jump at the offer from Progressive to take all the worries out of my mishap. Especially with them having to foot the bill.
But I am seeit from the industry side . and it doesn’t look good.
i had a customer ( prospective) brought a vehicle in for a post repair inspection . The t/lamp and rear body lines did not match the body lines. He had it repaired by this program . And being a machinest by trade had the talent to make his own judgement on quality. Progressive claims center not only refused to correct the problem ,They refused to give him the name of the shop that had made the repairs. Protecting the reputation of the certified shop that had made the repairs. What’s that all about.
    Figure that one out ,
How would the certified shops feel if a third party would be there to certify the quality . I have talked to several body men that have worked on the program ,I could go on for days. But don’t have the time Fred Smith
