Much of the road noise comes from tires and air, not the engine (for many cars). And to my knowledge all 50 states require the driver to watch out for blind pedestrians. I’m against making cars noisier. I like quiet.
Is this really necessary? Are tax payers really being forced to pay for this? Honestly, is there an epidemic of blind pedestrians being stuck by hybrid cars?
In a separate, but related news article: The Maryland State Legislature just passed a bill requiring all bicycles come equipped with playing cards in the spokes.
Good one, Joe Momma! I’ve also heard that cops are no longer allowed to pull you over with silent flashers. If a loud siren is not available, they will be required to shout, “woooooooo, woooooo” out the windows until you pull over.
Our tax dollars (not) hard at work! Don’t know if they still do, but the New Hampshire legislature used to be a part-time operation, paying them a daily pittance for attendance, and having a session that lasted, by statute, only six weeks in duration. I hope they still do.
Let’s give them hybrids and driver’s licenses (heck they give them to illegals who are habitual violators) and make the sighted people watch out for them.

Yet another argument for the pipes on my motorcycle, helping blind pedestrians stay safe. Think I’ll add a flashing light for the deaf ones.
What a waste of time and money on this issue.
