Believe me, I know that 911 dispatcher is not best pay in the world and obviously they do not always hire the brightest people in the world but just from a moral standpoint – what in God’s green earth would possess you to give confidential information like this? You know, some people just really love drama and these two shouldn’t even be allowed to take jobs as dog walkers! Hope these two don’t have families – they’re screwed period.
Anyway, suing them is not going to bring loved ones back and I hope the suit is symbolic and not a means for money grubbing. These people get paid well below $25K a year and it only requires a h.s. diploma or a GED. It’s not rocket science. They didn’t have anything in the first place so really there’s nothing to take. Suing the city will just place a burden on the taxpaying citizens. Just give them a bad permanent records that follows them and move on people. Nothing more to see here.
The 911 call center, may have subcontracted out the service and they carry liabiliyty insurance. If not, the township does carry insurance and they can certainly reap $$$ from that pocket.

Agreed Saints Fan, hopefully this will be thrown out of the Courts again as they filed the lawsuit too late. Should have been tossed out on those grounds at the very beginning.
first of all, they won’t throw it out. murder does not have a statute of limitations, therefore neither does the equivocally the civil suit. here’s the problem i have w/the whole issue: why did the other fellow, not cover his own tracks and let his supervisor know of the searching address for confidential information? it definately was not for official business.
I’m sure the municipality had confidentiality guidelines (proven by the fact that they fired someone for accessing information without a direct business-related reason). As long as those security measures were followed I don’t see the city’s liability beyond the deep pockets – unfortunately, these days, it seems that’s all you need to become a target for professional liability suits.
Sue the saps who provided the information unless you can show something the city actually did wrong other than detain someone for accessing information.
If I had to detain every person I fired for accessing information they shouldn’t have I’d have to build a holding cell in my supply closet.
I am with Mr. Obvious in that this rises to the level of criminality on the part of all who knew about accessing confidential information but did not stop it or report it or otherwise do something about it. I don’t know about the lawsuit making any redress but I would think charges are in order so that those involved have to answer for their part.

There is a case in Atlanta where a 13-year veteran cop (female) accessed private information of a female “rival” (her estranged husband’s new woman) and sent letters to the rival’s family & former boss labeling her a homewrecker. It’s pretty malicious stuff and I am sure a suit will follow. I also agree with other posters about the possible criminal charges. I forgot that in my rant. They really need the book thrown at them. Unless there are children involved on the victim’s side (money will be needed), I think an extensive period of time behind bars will make them rethink how faulty their helping a friend was. They’re still idiots – morally derelict idiots that is.

I agree that money won’t bring the dead back to life. I wonder why they weren’t brought up on criminal charges as accessories to murder.
