January 11, 2008

Nineteen insurance fraud cases were adjudicated in Maryland in the last three months of 2007, resulting in nearly $450,000 in restitution ordered paid, the state’s Insurance Administration said.

The prosecutions were brought through a cooperative effort between the administration’s insurance fraud division, companies’ own investigation units and the state’s auto theft task force.

Of the 19 cases that went to trial, six defendants were given probation, eight were sent to prison, three were given jail time and probation.
