I guess that it is unfortunate when anyone dies under any circumstances. Here, though, the first thing that comes to mind is “stupid is as stupid does”.

Could be stupidity… could be mental illness.

No one “sane” would live like that regardless of their intelligence.

Sounds like these poor folks were in need of a family member or a friend, some sort of advocate who could get them help.

I think the behavoir is called “hoarding”. … Covered it briefly in psych class years ago.

    Very sad.

I wonder if the police officer who investigated the 911 hang-ups ventured into the house and saw the fire hazard? If so, he should have called whatever social agency that could have aided the elderly couple, by advising them of the fire hazard, and possibly provided removable security devices on windows and doors.

well, if they used the garage to come and go, why was there no security (improvised) there? why did the fire department not try to enter that way?

here’s the other question: if so, why did the victims/owners not try to exit out that same way? was the fire blocking the exit to the garage?

at that age of their life, someone should be visiting at least once a week, family especially. but you can not place blame on the local government. blame here in question is the victim, whom unfortunately can not tell us why.

why is this article a concern of the IJ? again, this shud be an article of news for the local paper – not a national issue/news.
