“The state official overseeing the project for the Office of Technology, Michael R. Mittleman, said that his agency believes the problems will be resolved.”

TWO BILLION DOLLARS and years of wasted time and this is what this moron has to say? Talk about lack of accountability. This jerk should be fired immediately and the state attorney general should investigate how this could happen. This is an embarassment and since the government doesn’t fire incompetent employees (or they’d have to fire themselves) they’ll just throw more of our hard earned money at the problem until it fixes itself. This type of waste and incompetence makes me want to puke. No other business would tolerate this level of stupidity.

Nope, not yet. The contractor responsible for the network upgrade is the one whose feet must held to the fire. Payment should be withheld. Was the project bonded? With that much $$$ at stake, someone was asleep at the wheel if it wasn’t bonded – and that’s grounds for firing.

Heads should roll immediately and not simply the contractor. The oversight committee and it’s leader are paid to insure you don’t spend $2 billion BEFORE you find out the damn thing doesn’t work. This is amateurish and sophomoric and that isn’t good enough at the salary levels of these boobs. We could have achieved this result with nobody overseeing the project. And you can bet the majority of the money has been paid already. Doesn’t anyone get sick of paying high taxes and reading about this incompetence? Think about it. Those in charge of this project are probably government employees who get raises and bonuses every year regardless of their level of performance, and, will get lifetime medical and an 80% pension of their gross earnings.

I live in Buffalo and my cell phone works just fine ALL OVER TOWN.

And judging by our tax rate and bad economy, how in gods name can we afford this?

    Give firefighters cell phones.

A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon there’s no one left to tax in New York. Same old, same old.
Didn’t anyone think “We’re going to pay Tyco for a contract?” was going to be ok?. What’s the current commercial – “DUH”.
We need to fix the gene pool.
