Talk about a knee jerk reaction. Why would the FDNY bother to inspect buildings under demolition? The eyesore and embrassment of the Deutsche Bank has been there since 9/11. It’s vacant. Some demolition debris catches fire, the FDNY sends two guys into the mess (for no good reason) and they die because a standpipe wasn’t working. Why would it be if the building was being demolished? The FDNY should have let the debris burn itself out, or at least fought the fire from the perimeter. There was no reason to risk two lives over this skeleton of a building that should have been razed years ago.
Because the city had to put a spin on how responsive it was. Never mind it failed to plan properly and follow it’s own protocols. You don’t put firefighters lives in danger to put out a fire in a building that is being demolished. If there’s nobody trapped inside (and this was has been completely vacant since 9/11) you contain the fire from spreading and let it burn out.
well, true a bldg about to be demolished should have only been contained. there should not have been anyone inside the bldg and all folks there were earlier, should have been accounted for. afterall, why save a bldg fm fire, if it’s coming down anyways.

Why, all of a sudden, is the commuication SO much better when it should have been that way all along?
