Its too bad people can’t seem to use any common sense when driving so we have to have laws to protect us. When did people forget that driving is operating a dangerous piece of equipment? The human race is destined to destory itself because we are becoming so stupid we can’t even make responsible decisions to safeguard life.
Howsabout a law against disecting small amphibians while driving? Howsabout a law against clipping your toenails while driving? Howsabout a law against giving yourself a tatoo below the waste while driving? Howsabout a law against changing your pants while driving? Howsabout a law against performing cataract sugery while driving? Howsabout a law against eating lasagna while driving?
This is one way to cull the heard of all the stupid people on the road out there. But unfortunately, they usually take someone with them. I actually wonder about some people how they make it through life being as stupid as they are. If breathing was involuntary and they had to think about it, they would be dead.
As the article acurately points out, NH already has a law against distracted driving, and yet people still text while driving. What makes anyone think that another law will put a stop to this if the one’s already on the books are enforced so infrequently people don’t view them as credible? I agree with the goal, but I don’t think another law is needed. Enforcement of the existing law and hard hitting education on the real life consequences are whats needed.
The question remains… How exactly are they going to enforce this law if it gets past?
Also would this be considered a primary violation which the officer can pull you over for? Or will it be a secondary violation for which they can only ticket you for if they see you doing it during the primary violation?
Perhaps the states should instead work with the phone companies that can use the exsisting technology to restrict JUST outgoing text messages if the phone itself is travelling faster then 10 MPH? (I use that limit as most of us cannot do a mile in 6 minutes unless we are full out running)
Stupidity and driver inattention has been, is now, and will always be a problem without an acceptable solution. I say “acceptable” because we know our courts and the ACLU will balk at anything that makes people accountable for their actions. Law abiding, responsible people will continue to me injured or killed because of a small percentage of morons. Too bad there isn’t a technology solution that would block outgoing cell phone signals for the person behind the wheel.
This is the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard. What if you’re having an emergency? Say you’re rushing your pregnant wife/friend to the hospital and need to call the husband/doctor on the way? What if you’re being followed and want to phone for help? There are many situations where you need your cell phone when driving and it isn’t necessarily to text or chat about mundane things.
Oh come on lh, I seriously doubt anyone, and I mean anyone, would be brought up on charges if they text or call on their cell while having an emergency. As I said before, common sense has been bred out of the human race.
well jarana, re-read a few of the posts and you will see that several people mentioned blocking cell phone signals when going certain speeds… that is what i was referring to. because if you’re driving in one of the situations i mentioned and your outgoing signal is blocked, then you would be unable to use your phone, which, in my opinion, is totally defeating the point of such modern technology like the cell phone.

Just shows what the influence of MA residents into NH is leading to.
