A safety expert says the Playland amusement park New York has made strides on safety, after three fatal accidents in three years.
Consultant Jerry Aldrich says he believes Playland is “a safe park.” He says employees and managers at the Westchester County-owned park are much more attuned to safety than they were when he conducted a similar review in 2004.
County Parks Commissioner Joseph Stout says he’s “very happy with” Aldrich’s report, which called for tighter oversight of rides and some stronger safety warnings.
County Executive Andrew Spano hired Aldrich after a 21-year-old worker was flung to her death while taking a spin on the park’s Mind Scrambler ride in June. The county Board of Legislators has commissioned its own review.
The state Labor Department and county police have said proper safety procedures weren’t being followed when Gabriela Garin was killed.
