Why is this law just for drivers under 18 years of age? How about over 50? The driver in front of me this morning was clearly over 50, stopped at a stop sign prior to making a right-hand turn when it was clearly posted right turn permitted without stopping and then made another right-hand turn without the use of their turn signal. I’d think those drivers under 18, who grew up with cell phones, are much more capable of handling them while driving then older drivers.
18, 28, 58… It wouldn’t make a difference how old the driver is. If you aren’t going to enforce the laws, they have no effect. We have had a no-cell phone law in NY for quite some time and I can’t see any difference that it has made.
We don’t have a statewide law in Oregon, but a couple of cities have “no cell phone while driving” laws. They don’t enforce them.
I like giving bicyclists 3 feet. It can be hard to judge from the driver’s seat but it is important to give them enough room. On the flip side they need to make sure they are doing their best to stay out of normal traffic flow.
As a cyclist, I try my best to hug the shoulder as much as possible, but there are times when I have to ride the line. Trust me! I know when cars are behind me and do the utmost to stay out of their way. But just as there are cyclists who think they deserve special treatment on the road, their are just as many drivers who have the “I’m bigger so stay out of my way” mentality. We can all share the road, people. Slowing down to pass a cyclist isn’t going to make you late!
