Government work at its finest. We should have imploded it while it was still safer to do so. Adding a few more ppm of contaminants to an already polluted atmosphere would have been safer and better for the environment than tossing that into a clean environment. And morale would have been better for not looking at that reminder every day for six years.
NYC’s handling of the Deutche Bank demolition is an embarassment. It sat there across from ground zero for years with a black screen covering it, a macabre reminder of 9/11. Instead of demolishing the building by imploding it shortly after 9/11 when the air was already contaminated, they opted to dismatle it floor-by-floor, a process that continues today. The recent fire claimed two more lives for no good reason. We’re into the 7th year of this clumsy and costly project.
Ive been living in the building for well over a year now as a squater, the building is structurally sound. It has served me and many of my friends well over the past few years. It should be kept as is.
