The audacity of this moron to ask for someone else to pay for this stupidity. If he owns three properties he has sufficient common sense and saavy to protect his investments. Just because he’s having a difficult time with his inurance carriers isn’t the town’s problem. Maybe the guy should engage the assistance of the agent who sold him the coverages. If a member of the government, city, state, or federal even thinks of bailing this fool out they should be fired immediately. Ditto Cliff’s comments.

You know if we weren’t engaged in a war in Iraq, there’d be plenty of money to help this poor guy out.

(Sorry, just a hold-over from the crap being spewed last week.)

Plymn, I sure hope that your comment was “tongue-in-cheek” as I am sure that you realize how nonsensical your statement is. Anyone that truly believes that if we were not at war, we would “have plenty of money”, is very much one of the sheep.

The article doesn’t say whether the insurance he is trying to collect is FLOOD or other insurance, so we don’t know that he didn’t have flood insurance.

The “flood mitigation grant” he is asking the town to apply for is part of the flood insurance program set up by the federal government. And acquisition of flood prone properties is one of the legitimate uses of such grants. He cannot apply for the grant, only towns which are part of the program can.

Seems to me this person is trying to do the responsible thing by NOT rebuilding in a flood prone area. It also seems to me that $350,000 is not an unreasonable amount for 3 properties, each with a house on it.

However, I do believe that any amount over the actual value of the properties before the flood, that he collects when both his insurance and this grant (assuming the town applies for it, gets it and acquires his properties with it) are paid should be returned to the program.

You mean the government shouldn’t be the do all and tell all in our lives?

Glad you caught the sarcasm in my previous post.

Icee: There is no valid reason to “help this guy out.” The government is not an insurance company. It’s the property owners personal responsibility to make sure proper coverage was in place. I would not want a cent of my tax money going to subsidize this guys stupidity. He must be a lawyer. Too cheap to buy insurance, and no shame in asking for somehting for nothing.

I coudn’t agree with your more. I also feel the same way about Louisiana.
Why should our Federal tax money go to purchase brand new homes and rebuild beat up areas.
