What I find incredible is that all of my life all I have heard from NY drivers that moved to NJ is how horrible Jersey drivers are.

My last year in the Navy I was stationed in New Jersey – and those drivers can instill the fear of God in almost anyone. The New Jersey Turnpike is one long accident-waiting-to-happen. I was always glad to cross the border into any other state.

I have a theory that there are regional cultural differences in driving habits. We certainly have them in speech patterns and accents, and when the driving patterns are different, they look crazy and dangerous. If you are on a freeway at speed, you are betting your life that the people around you more or less think and behave as you do.

What people from other states can’t handle about driving in NJ is that we perpetually have 70-85 mph bumper-to-bumper traffic. There is no such thing as a safe driving distance in my state.

I’d like to get that bumper sticker. There are tons of MD, VA, and NY drives using US 15 to go to Gettysburg who love to park in the left lane and clog the road. Traffic would move smoother if they would just get over and let passers by!

WORD! Under no circumstance should you maintain a safe distance between
you and the car in front of you, because the space will be filled in
by somebody else, putting you in an even more dangerous situation. (from a myspace jersey driving law list)
