Common sense is something you’re born with or with out. if you lack it you’ll probably end up going down the highway at 100+ MPH. i’ve been scared out of my pants on the highway by those bikes driving in my jeep with no doors on. i think Darwins theory is going from “only the strong survive” to “only the smart people with common sense survive”

It’s not just the bikes passing you, ANY vehicle passing you at 100+mph is going to scare the beegeebers out of you. I’ve had a police car pass me on the highway, no lights, siren, etc., just a “whoosh” when he went by. Looks like they need to crack down on all speeders!

Speed Kills. Stupidity Kills. Put the two together on a two-wheeled racing cycle and the only question is “who” will be killed?

The “speed bikes” like the ones being discussed aren’t driven by safe or sane individuals. Otherwise, they’d buy a larger, cruising bike. They want “speed”. Doesn’t matter they don’t have the brains to realize that controlling a bike at high speeds requires excellent judgement and reaction time.

I agree with the natural selection comments. I don’t support helmet laws. (or seat belt laws). Anyone who hasn’t progressed far enough up the food chain to realize the danger deserves what they get. Laws won’t help either. “some seed fell on rock”. They’ll never get it.

As for the cop who was chasing a speed bike. He should be arrested and charged for the carnage he caused. In a race between a cycle and a squad car……bet on the cycle. This cop used poor judgement and should never have pursued in a congested area.

Amen Mr Reed – I’m sure the cop was close enough to get the license number – you know, that little metal thing on the back of the vehicle that tells you who owns the thing… Would have been more to the point to track them down that way – and if he wasn’t “close enough” I’ll bet you ask any of the motorists on that street when the cycle went by they probably could come up with a partial – Maybe I’m the exception but seeing something like that – even at a glance – you notice. They should have a hotline set up where people can call in speeders – or road rage – I know the “big brother” thing is a stickler, but if it saves lives – it’s better than taking out a few innocent people to do it.

Doesn’t cleaning up after a wreck with a dead body or two cost the government money? Sometimes laws are the only way to get idiots to do the right thing. I’m glad everyone seems to tolerate crotch rockets going 100+ mph. Next time one of those kids’ bikes hits the median I hope you aren’t too badly injured when the person riding is launched into your car as a 175 lb. projectile. The Fact of the matter is that lunatics driving like maniacs can affect you or someone you care about. What’s the problem with cracking down on them?

THE ONLY WAY THE LAW IS EVEN GOING TO JUST “MINIMIZE” OR HOPEFULLY BE RID OF THE PROBLEM OF SPEEDING WITH THESE DEATH MACHINES, IS BY BANNING THE SALE OF THEM ALL TOGETHER.
THESE KIDS THINK THEY ARE INDESTRUCTIBLE AND DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD.
THEY ARE ONLY “SHOW-OFFS”, AND THE ONLY THING THEY ARE SHOWING US IS THAT THEY ARE STUPID AND IRRESPONSIBLE.
LIKE EVERY THING ELSE; HOW MANY INNOCENT LAW-ABIDING PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE SOMETHING SERIOUS IS DONE!!

There are a number of conveyances that have the ability to approach speeds of over 100 mph. Its not necessary to ban them outright as well. It is much more reasonable to institute laws that can make their use safe.

The motorcycles otherwise known as “crotch rockets” are no exception. If they can be operated safely then they should be. If they aren’t operated safely, then the offending driver/rider should be punished.
