So they let this guy work as an attorney for a couple of years before checking his credentials–very impressive…..what caused them to finally check on him: were his billable hours down??
That’s just what I thought, Kellie. Even an insurance company asks an agent for a copy of an agents license before appointing him. You would think the legal profession would be a tad more professional, wouldn’t you? Almost makes you think the firm should have some accountability, but after all, it’s just lawyers policing lawyers, so why expect very much.
OK – the legal profession police’s itself, just who in our entire gov’t watches the law makers…judges? Aren’t they just lawyers with advanced contacts? If someone ever really dug deep into the legal profession, what would the IRS have to say! 30%++ contingency! (ps – generally paid by insurance claims). An unlicenced professional is the least of the bar’s worries. Figure out ‘their’ income disclosure and that’s where the fun would start.
Took the words right out of my mouth, Kellie. It’s a shame that you give the person the benefit of the doubt (and no reason not to, right?), only to later have it bite you in the rear.
Do we know all of the facts? Did he cook this scheme up on his own? Did his superior tell/suggest to him to do this? I know you should always do what your boss tells you to, but this is riduculous!!
My boss has asked some ridiculous things of me recently but none are close to being illegal. And if they did ask me to do something illegal, I guess I will be out of a job.

Kellie is right on. Attorneys only care about billable hours, they sort of lose sight of right and wrong.
It is amazing that he worked for YEARS without being questioned.One more thought, did he submit for tuition reimbursement? ?
I’ll bet his legal work was probably the best in the firm! He probably was timely and returned calls.
