I agree with you Anthony. I am going to start driving on the \”wrong\” side of the road for now on. I am going to run every red light, why stop as that infringes on MY personal rights. I am going to drive naked, talk on my phone, not use my seat belt, drive on the wrong side of the road, run a red light and hit a pedestrian and then say a big F you to law enforcement and tell the gov\’t to leave me and my personal freedoms alone.

Is there statistical proof that NH has higher injury claims from lower seat belt use?

Until someone answers that question all the hyperbole about running stop signs is pointless chest-beating.

If you can\’t prove that non-wearers impact anyone but themselves, shut up.

NH statistics from 2003 (most recent I found) indicated that there were 91 fatalities and 7 out of 10 occupants killed did not have seat belts on. My sister\’s car slid on black ice, rolled over twice then landed on the roof in a ditch. She was suspended upside down and ultimately had internal bruising that took almost one year to heal….but she was and is alive.. that is exactly what the seat belt was meant to do. There are also numerous incidents of unbelted drivers being the cause of their kid\’s death by crushing them when they are ejected from the driver\’s seat and cannot control what happens to them.. please buckle up because it could be someone else\’s life…we don\’t care if you die but we don\’t want to pay for long term medical care for you and welfare for your family.

I didn\’t ask for how many unbelted occupants die.

I didn\’t ask for anecdotal evidence from your personal life.

I didn\’t ask for your opinion on seatbelt use and its costs.

I asked for a statistical analysis comparing states without seatbelt laws to states with seatbelt laws and the resulting personal injury claims.

touchy, touchy, touchy…. how many other states don\’t require seat belts? I don\’t think there are any other states that don\’t require seat belts…so NH people do use them when they travel! NH folks just like to let others think they are a bunch of perfect hicks…..

    I apologize for appearing touchy.

My concern is that we have a large number of laws jammed down our throats because they are in our best interest, yet there is very little statistical evidence of this.

I don\’t understand why forcing a motorist to wear a seatbelt is desirable if there is no evidence that it cuts down costs.

Problem with stats is people make them up so they can make there point plus people lie when they get into accidents they say they were wearing there selt belt to look good in case they get sued. so you cant go by police reports and nurses in hospitals only see the people who get hurt but never talk about the ones who get hurt that were wearing selt belts. I work with sales and even if you dont make up stats you only show people the ones you wont them to see and act like the other ones dont exist. here are some true stats I have been in 8 accidents in my life none of which were my fault I never wear my selt belt and i was only hurt once (concusion, bruising) when I got hit from the left side and the door crushed in i was pushed from the drivers seat into the passenger seat good thing because the car that hit me was sitting on the drivers seat so 1 out of 8 accidents i got hurt but it could have been 1 out of 8 killed me

The primary enforcement of seatbelt laws is a deprivation of liberty and anybody who fails to see that I do not understand at all. If you see a policeman not wearing his seatbelt, there\’s nothing you can do. If they see you not wearing yours in my state, even for a second, they pull you over, write you a ticket, take your license, (no signature for bond), and send you on your way with the stern warning to \”click it\” or ticket. Normally law enforcements acts out of its office to protect society. They stop somebody when the are putting others at risk by speeding or committing a moving violation. I hope New Hampshire sticks to its guns. Believe me, in the land of liberty, you don\’t want road blocks enforcing seatbelt laws at all hours. Just think Iraq, you too can have the benefits of a free society like roadblocks to force you to wear your seatbelt. It is the sign of a police state, make no mistake.

NH residents are obligated to buckle up when they travel outside of NH… every other state has a seat belt law. NH residents also don\’t buy insurance then they drive in other states, cause accidents, then go home leaving unpaid medical bills and damaged cars! You could be their next victim and the NH courts do not help you get reimbursed… so much for live free or die… you can die and they don\’t pay.. so much for everyone having freedom… oh, just NH folks are supposed to Live Free or Die..
