The survivors and families of the victims need to let go of their anger and hatred and move on. They are fools if they don\’t. They should not have a say in how the case should be or was handled either. They are too emotional and most likely lack the skills necessary to handle and prosecute a case.

One has to wonder why this is even a criminal death matter. While the number of losses is tragic, and the family and friends emotional — how does that equal this level of criminal prosecution?

The club owners are idiots. The guy that lit the pyrotechnics is a fool. The local inspectors are incompetent. But \”being stupid\” does not, to my way of thinking, equal prison terms with murderers, rapists, and robbers — this is not a violent intention issue. None of these people had any intent to harm anyone. Being stupid or being a fool should not land you in prison.

Certainly there is a need for restitution and punishment. The civil case can give money, but it cannot bring back a loved one. Neither can prison terms for who you want to land the blame upon. The club owners should never be allowed to have a public venue to manage ever again. The inspectors should be fired, and not allowed that capacity again.

Even the comment in the article about some victim\’s families wanting the band members to be held accountable is worrisome. Should the busboy, therefore, also be held accountable? This is a ridiculous thought. Irrational emotions take hold, and prosecutors and judges must totally ignore such issues, and deal with the case on only the merits of the wrongdoing, not on the unfortunate results.

The comment of \”move on\” is right on target. None of these folks are going to get any valuable relief because someone went to prison — that is a selfish, petty and childish view, that society needs to step forward and help these people understand and accept. Reverse the roles, and think that your son was the club manager — and though you\’d be sad your son was so dumb… you wouldn\’t allow others to put him in prison because he was stupid. Prisons are there to punish intentional wrongdoers… they are not to house our stupid people.
